Thanksgiving Pine Cone Crafts
A cute Thanksgiving pine cone craft is to make a pine cone turkey. You need a pine cone - preferably a large open one, some scissors, construction paper, and glue. First, cut out eyes from black construction paper or buy some wiggly eyes from a discount store. Cut a small triangle out of yellow construction paper. Draw and cut out a teardrop shape on red construction paper for the turkey's wattle. Cut out legs and feet from brown construction paper. Finally, cut out several feather shapes from different colors of construction paper. Assembly is easy. Just glue on the various face parts and the feathers in between the cone's openings.

Supplies you need include a pine cone, vegetable shortening, oatmeal, bird seed, and some string. Start by mixing together half a cup of the shortening with two and a half cups of oatmeal, and mix until well blended. If you like, you can add in some dried fruit, chopped nuts, or sunflower seeds. Tie a string to the top of the pine cone and then apply the mixture all around the cone making sure you get it deep inside the openings. Then, roll the whole thing in bird seed and pat to stick. Hang from a tree and watch the birds flock to it!
Another pine cone craft is make a great scented gift for someone special. Make a thin glue by mixing one part white glue with one part water. Brush it all over the pine cone. Mix together some spices such as ground ginger, ground cinnamon, or ground nutmeg. Make sure you have plenty of the spice mixture. Roll the pine cone in the spices and let dry. You can use these in baskets, glued on wreaths, or even on their own to hang as an ornament. Hot glue a ribbon to the very top of the pine cone. Add accents to the top, such Spanish moss, raffia or dried flowers.
